Supercapacitors can support frequency regulation of thermal power units. Conventional thermal units respond slowly to grid regulation, with high wear and limited accuracy. Generation Side — Thermal Power and Energy Storage
Frequency Regulation Data

Project unit configuration: two 330 MW cogeneration units integrated with a hybrid energy storage system of 4 MW supercapacitors + 5 MW lithium batteries.

Trial operation started on April 24. By October 24, the unit’s Kp value had increased from about 2.5 to 3.8. The K1 value rose from 1.1 to 1.3 (limit: 1.3), while K2 reached about 1.65 and K3 about 1.8. The Kp value is now stable at 3.6–3.9, with peaks above 4.0, ranking among the best local units.

Recent one-month data show that the supercapacitor contributed about 48% of the mileage, accounting for 13% of the electricity contribution, with an average of 83 full-capacity charges and 81 full-capacity discharges per day.
