China Huaneng Yimin Power Plant Full Supercapacitors Energy Storage System
The all-supercapacitor energy storage system deployed at Huaneng Yimin Power Plant is coupled with a 660MW thermal power generation unit. The project was delivered in 2024 and was officially commissioned in Q1 2025.
Solution:
The solution meets both primary frequency regulation and secondary frequency regulation requirements. It adopts titanium-based supercapacitor energy storage and integrates: 4 × 2MW × 10min capacitor cabins; 2 × 4MW × 10min capacitor cabins; 4 × 4.5MW step-up cabins; 2 energy storage medium-voltage cabins; 1 central control cabin.
Benefits:
Within just four months of operation, the project reduced primary frequency regulation assessment penalties by about RMB 5 million and generated about RMB 5 million in profit, with total positive returns exceeding RMB 10 million. The compliance rate for response delay time increased to over 92%, while the load adjustment range, adjustment deviation, and energy contribution value all exceeded standard requirements.
